about

Juliette Guilloteau is a French contemporary abstract artist, currently based in Brussels, Belgium. Self-taught, she finds inspiration in the work of abstract expressionists such as Joan Mitchell, Mary Abbott and Clyfford Still amongst others.

Most of my work starts with a writing process, stemming from a simple stream of consciousness. This process is essential to me, in order to bring memories and liberating thoughts up to the surface. Poetry and prose, conversations and everyday to-do lists serve as the basis of all my paintings. My notebook is never far when I paint.

“My paintings are titled after they are finished. I paint from remembered landscapes that I carry with me – and remembered feelings of them, which of course become transformed. I could certainly never mirror nature. I would more like to paint what it leaves with me.”
